If you have loose skin after a healthy weight loss, be proud of what you've accomplished. You've done what many people try on a daily basis and just do not have the will power and determination to accomplish.

2. Moderation

Where moderation is concerned the first thing a person needs to learn is portion control (not eating as much as they use to). The first step where moderation is involved is learning to know how much food is enough and how much would be too much. Most of the successful diets succeed as they teach the person how to plan food portion sizes appropriately. Also it takes over 20 minutes for the feeling of fullness in the stomach to register in a person's brain it is important that you learn how to regulate the amount of food you ingest. It is important that you learn this rather than waiting until you feel full. Also with moderation you need to learn the difference between satisfying your hunger and being full.

3. Variation

Any healthy diet should involve the inclusion of several food types. The main reason for this is your health. By including a wide variety of foods it will increase the likelihood of your obtaining the required amounts of essential nutrients. It is well documented and recognized that both mineral and vitamin composition are food specific. Whilst you may find some fruits are high in Vitamin C there are some which are low in calcium. So providing variation in your diet will not only prevent food boredom, but it will provide you with something interesting and exciting to try.

4. Eat According To Your Type

By following the Metabolic Typing Diets, diet fitness can be easily attained. We can be roughly classified into Protein Type, Carbohydrate Type, and the Mixed Type. And we're supposed to eat according to our type, or else our body will complain and show us signs that we probably don't want to deal with, such as fatigue, weakness, emotional disturbances, digestive problems, etc...However, when we eat according to our types, we'll feel absolutely energised and ready to conquer the world. For most people, eating a full meal of carbohydrates for breakfast can really slow them down. If you notice your body slowing down or yourself getting easily irritated about half an hour after a meal, it's time that you started investigating into Metabolic Typing Diet to know more about your body and yourself. While the food industry holds a major part of the blame, deliberately participating to a phenomenon of mass poisoning by carelessly promoting and supporting the commercialization of unhealthy food products, another part of the blame is held by parents, who often indulge in satisfying their siblings' every culinary preferences without being aware of the consequences.


Although it is painful to admit this fact, parental neglect is one of the reasons for today's children's health problems. Nowadays, it seems that parents are more preoccupied with their work than with the health and wellbeing of their children. Very few parents these days make time for preparing healthy, home-cooked meals, preferring fast food, processed food products and other quick alternatives over a balanced diet. Nevertheless, today's parents don't seem to bother educating their children about the risks of inappropriate dietary choices, becoming too permissive when it comes to fulfilling their children's trifles.


As a parent, you are main responsible for taking measures in preventing the occurrence of cholesterol problems in your children. Our cultural obsession with thinness earns the diet industry $100 billion/year. The media presents thinness as the epitome of beauty for all females, even though this standard of beauty is unattainable for most women. The prevalence of images of so called ?attractive? ultra thin women in the media leads to diminished body image and a lack of awareness regarding what constitutes a healthy weight. Although, there is an increasing trend in which the body image of young males being negatively affected by the media?s presentation of the ideal male body this article will focus on; thinness as the beauty standard for all women in our culture, how this standard affects the psychology and body image of females, and how to determine your own healthy weight.

The media in all its forms promotes thinness as the beauty ideal. Women?s magazines have 10.5X more ads and articles promoting weight loss than men?s magazines do, over 75% of the covers of women?s magazines include at least one message about how to change a woman?s bodily appearance, and approximately 80% of the female characters featured on TV and in movies are underweight.

Audiences viewing these images absorb these ideals, and as a culture we label those who are larger as unattractive and unworthy. If you think back to your childhood I am sure you will remember that during your school days the overweight kids were often the last ones picked for teams, teased about their size and discussed as being less than worthy of their thin counterparts. This makes it obvious that cultural notions about physical size color our perceptions, our language, and the way we behave. This is especially true for females who attempt to adhere to the beauty standard, as illustrated by the statistics to follow.


  • In recent survey by Teen People magazine 27% of the girls reported that they felt the media pressures them to have a perfect body

  • A 1996 poll conducted by an international advertising agency found that ads made women fear being unattractive or old

  • At any one time, 50% of American women are dieting

  • The number one wish for girls ages 11 to 17 is to be thinner

  • Researchers have found that girls as young as five have expressed fears of getting fat

Cleary, the average female living in the Western world does not have a good body image. This should be of concern to everyone in our society, as a negative body image affects the mental health and quality of life of most girls and women including our mothers, sisters, daughters and friends.

It is important to note that a woman?s body image influences her behavior, self-esteem and psyche. When a female feels bad about her body her moods plummets and she loses confidence in her abilities. Girls and women who think poorly of their bodies tend to have problems in other areas of their lives, including her sexuality, career and relationships. The excerpt below from the Agony section of Cosmopolitan magazine that exemplifies this point:

Recently I've been really unhappy. My main problem is that I am overweight and can't see someone ever really caring about me. I have really low self-esteem and only one guy has ever really looked past my appearance and saw me for who I am. I am so lonely and don't know what to do. I would give anything to be thin. I have taken diet pills and made myself vomit and tried to starve myself, but I don't have a lot of will power. I'm planning on seeing a therapist, but can you help me with my problem?

A female with a healthy body image has feelings about her body that are positive, confident and self caring. This image is necessary to care for the body, to find outlets for self-expression and to feel comfortable with oneself as a person. But how does one move towards developing a positive body image? This is a complex issue, but one part of the answer is to determine what your own healthy body weight is and to move towards achieving and maintaining it, instead of focusing on a beauty standard that is unattainable for over 97% of the population. So how does one ascertain what her healthy body weight is?

Presently, the Body Mass Index (BMI) and Waist Circumference (WC) measures are considered the best indicators of a person?s healthy weight. Your BMI is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms by your height in metres squared. If that calculation results in a number that falls within the range of 18.5-24.9 you are at a healthy weight. For waist circumference the measure is taken midway between the bottom margin of your lowest rib and the top of your pelvic bone while you are standing with your feet about 25-30 cm (10-12?) apart. A WC measurement of >88cm (35?) for women and >102 (40?) for men is associated with increased risk of disease and ill health.

In summary, determining your own healthy body weight is not difficult, though shifting one?s mindset away from upholding ?thinness? as the beauty standard might be. For the majority of females in our society the battle against the real or imagined bulge is a constant over the course of their entire lives. This preoccupation with their weight often negatively impacts their mental state, and ultimately the way they interact with the people around them. For this reason, education regarding what is considered a healthy weight is fundamental to improving the mental health and body image of women and girls. And, when more young girls and women are informed about the notion of a healthy weight, the idea that thinness is the only beauty standard for women will slowly be replaced with the knowledge that being healthy makes you truly beautiful.

Picky Eater Kid Nutritional Guidelines

Although many children are picky eaters at some stage in their lives, the experts say not to worry. Unless you are feeding him or her chips and cookies three times each day, these children will most likely meet their weekly nutritional quotas.

However, if you are concerned about their developmental progress, make an appointment with their pediatrician for confirmation. In the meantime, you may want to include a multivitamin in your child's daily diet to balance his intake of nutrients.

Instead of looking at what types of food your child is eating meal-by-meal or even day-by-day, round out the picture by looking at your child's diet week-by-week.

Most children do not eat a balanced diet every day, but over the course of a week or so, their diet will usually fall within healthy eating guidelines. This perspective can help provide you with the total nutrient intake and you will probably feel much better after discovering that they really are eating more nutritional foods overall.

Here are some nutritional guidelines that can help you when looking at your child's dietary needs:

Children need between 24-28 grams of protein a day, which can be found in just two servings of cheese, beef, chicken, fish, eggs, yogurt, dried beans, milk, or peanut butter

Approximately 800 mg of calcium (3-4 servings) are needed daily, which can be found in macaroni and cheese, yogurt, orange juice, or a glass of milk

Children need at least 5 mcg of Vitamin D, which is available in a glass of milk or by playing outside in the sunshine for a few minutes every day

The requisite 5 mg of iron can be found in lean meats, poultry, fish, legumes, or whole grains

Vitamin A (500 mcg) can be readily found in vegetables, including carrots and sweet potatoes

Likewise, Vitamin C (45 mg) can found in fruits such as blueberries, strawberries, oranges, and cantaloupes

Of course, whenever in doubt, the Food Guide Pyramid for Young Children (http://www.usda.gov/cnpp/KidsPyra/) remains the standard for nutritional eating for children between the ages of 2 and 6. This includes Bread, Cereal, Rice, and Pasta (6 servings a day); Vegetables (3 servings a day); Fruits (2 servings a day); Milk, Yogurt, and Cheese (2 servings a day); Meat, Poultry, Fish, Dry Beans, Eggs, and Nuts (2 servings a day); Fats, Oils, and Sweets (use sparingly).

Snack Time

Snacks will typically not ruin your child's appetite an hour or so before dinner because he or she has a small stomach. Because your child may not receive enough nutrients during dinner, snacks should be viewed as an important time to meet those needs, especially if they are offered at a regularly scheduled snack time.

However, beware of snacks that provide little more than calories such as chips, candy, and sodas. Elizabeth Ward, MS, RD, a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, says, If you are going to offer snacks, make sure they are supplementing meals, not sabotaging them.

You may have seen other people struggle with single parenting or thought about the strain single parenting would seemingly put on you and your children.

Single Parenting Is Easier If You Know Yourself.

When deciding about getting a divorce and thinking about how single parenting figures in, make sure that you know yourself. Know whether you're really ready for this...after all your children deserve the best care possible!

Single Parenting Is Easier If You Know Your Children.
Yes, you have to really know your children...you have to know how they'll respond to a plethora of changes if you're going to try single parenting. How will they respond to not seeing your spouse - Mom or Dad - as often? How will your children react to having to be dropped off at your ex-spouses house for visitation? How will the children feel about potentially not enjoying the same luxuries or attention that they may have had previously? Of course, there's more questions to ask to fit your particular situation...keep your children's best interest at heart.

You absolutely must know your children in order to be comfortable about trying single parenting. Granted, it won't be easy and there will be rocky points in the process, but if you know your children well enough single parenting can be productive assuming your marriage cannot be saved. In any event, your children most likely will have to sacrifice if you're going to try single parenting.

Single Parenting Will Be Easier If You Review Your Finances And Plan Accordingly.

Whether the concept is shallow or not is irrelevant. Finances (or lack thereof) figure in to your decision to venture into single parenting. Take a hard look at what your finances will allow for if you're thinking of becoming a single parent. You must not let emotion completely rule your decision to try single parenting. In order to do what's best for you and your children, you need to assess just how you'll make ends meet and how you'll provide for them...and yourself!

Be sensible and take a good amount of time to figure out how you'll live, where the money will come from, how your own freedoms will be compromised, and more importantly, how your children's freedoms will be affected!

If you have a well laid out plan with regards to finance before you start single parenting, you will be much better off.

Single parenting is hard and your children will be affected no matter how well off you are in your life with regards to finance and support mechanisms. But, unfortunately, single parenting can be a necessary thing to do in some instances. Just do right by your children and yourself and think about the future and how you can build your life correctly before you venture into single parenting.

time. It may be slower than you would like but it works, and
its forever not just for Christmas or weddings.

If you reduce the fat content of your 'normal' food you can
eat an enormous amount of other stuff, so you won't feel
hungry. You will actually eat less calories without eating
less food. Avoiding fat is easy. Obvious targets are dairy
fats and margarines. Spread butter or margarine thinly, or
buy fat-reduced spreads, or even better, try without. It
works for sandwiches with lettuce and tomato to provide some
moisture but I'd rather have some spread on my toast than
just jam. Trim the fat off your meat and bacon before
cooking.

Try semi-skimmed milk and then progress to the fully
skimmed. Ignore the slightly grey colour and enjoy its
increased calcium and vitamins compared to the greasy un-
skimmed product. Vegetarians should also be aware that many
vegetable-based products could be as heavy in fat as those
that are meat based. Biscuits are generally very high in
fat, typically around 25% but much higher again if chocolate
coated. The problem with biscuits is that you can easily
take in a substantial part of your daily calories without
feeling as though you have eaten anything but a few
mouthfuls. If you need a snack have some fruit instead or
low fat yoghurt.
